The device (26) has a controllable clutch for connecting a driving member e.g. toothed wheel and cam, to a return mechanism (30). A driving unit (42) drives a movable contact (38) towards a contact position with a fixed contact (40) and a remote position of the fixed contact during the closing phase of a cutting chamber (12). The clutch is clutched during the totality of the closing phase of the chamber, and is declutched during an opening phase of the chamber so that the driving member is driven by the mechanism during the closing phase.
