The method involves applying a cosmetic product to keratinous matters e.g. nail, of an individual to modify color, and acquiring an image of keratinous matters coated with the cosmetic product by a multi-spectral imager (10). An aspect of the keratinous matters coated with the cosmetic product is simulated from the acquired image, under a predefined illuminant such as an artificial light, which is different from the daylight under which the cosmetic product is applied.
