The invention aims to reduce the specific consumption Cs of a twin-engine helicopter without overcoming the minimum power security requirements to provide for any type of mission. To do this, the invention provides for special means capable of ensuring reliable flight restarts. An example of architecture according to the invention comprises two turbine engines (1, 2) each equipped with a gas generator (11, 21) and a free turbine (12, 22). Each gas generator (1, 21) is equipped with active drive means (E1, E2) able to keep the gas generator (11, 21) in rotation with the chamber switched off, as well as a device for assisting emergency (U1, U2) comprising quasi-instantaneous firing means and mechanical gas generator acceleration means (11, 21). The control system (4) controls the drive means (E1, E2) and the emergency assistance devices (U1, U2) of the gas generators (11, 21) according to the conditions and phases of flight of the helicopter according to a mission profile previously recorded in a memory (6) of this system (4).
