The device has an electrically conducting layer (10) in contact with a heat source at temperature, and another electrically conducting layer (70) in contact with another heat source at a temperature. Thermally insulating layer (40) is provided between the electrically conducting layers and includes a substance i.e. glass, having an amorphous structure and thermoelectric property. The glass contains poor metal e.g. gallium and indium. An electrically and thermally conducting partition separates the device into cells. The glass contains metalloid composition of group of chalcogens comprising tellurium and a metalloid composition of group of crystalogens comprising germanium. An independent claim is also included for a method for utilizing a conversion device in a motor vehicle.
