The invention relates to a new seal between two spaces capable of being occupied by two gases reactive with each other, typically oxygen and hydrogen. According to the invention, a buffer chamber is produced between the two spaces of reactive gas with each other, the leaks of the reactive gases towards the buffer chamber being determined to produce a predominantly diffusion-type flow (by molecular diffusion or Knudsen) and the dimensions of the chamber being determined to allow a reaction within the two reactive gases therebetween. Application to the sealing realization in an EHT electrolyser or a SOFC type fuel cell.
