Composition comprising an oil phase, an aqueous phase, at least one water-in-oil emulsifier system, in the form of an inverse latex, characterized in that it comprises a cationic, linear, branched or crosslinked polyelectrolyte, comprising: a) a non-zero molar proportion of monomeric units derived from at least one cationic monomer, b) a non-zero molar proportion of monomeric units derived from N- (2-hydroxyethyl) acrylamide, and c) optionally a molar proportion of monomeric units derived from at least one neutral monomer different from said N- (2-hydroxyethyl) acrylamide; process for its preparation and use as a thickener of cosmetic or pharmaceutical compositions.
