Process of modifying materials made of fibers integrated with a polymer which contains anhydroglucose units, comprises partial oxidation of the polymer constituting the fibers by contacting with an oxidant mixture comprising a hypohalite, halite, and oxoammonium salt or its precursor, for producing fiber-based material integrated with partially oxidized polymer. Independent claims are included for: (1) an absorbable and hemostatic material made of partially oxidized polymer fibers by the process; (2) a fabric as implantable dressing, compress, prosthesis, stent or recellularization matrix, for implantation or organ regeneration; and (3) a thread for the preparation of fabric.
