Coloring keratin fibers comprises applying at least one hydroxybenzaldehyde derivative, chemical oxidizing agent and alkalizing agent on the keratin fibers, and heat treating the keratin fibers
Process for coloring keratin fibers comprises: (a) applying, on the keratin fibers, (i) at least one hydroxybenzaldehyde derivative (I) and their salts of organic or inorganic acid or bases, or solvates such as hydrates, (ii) at least one chemical oxidizing agent, and (iii) at least one alkalizing agent; and (b) heat treatment of keratin fibers to a temperature above 30[deg] C, provided that: the ingredients (i)-(iii) can be applied to the fibers either together or separately; and the pH of the composition or the ingredient (ii) is basic i.e. greater than 7. Process for coloring keratin fibers comprises: (a) applying, on the keratin fibers, (i) at least one hydroxybenzaldehyde derivative of formula (I) and their salts of organic or inorganic acid or bases, or solvates such as hydrates, (ii) at least one chemical oxidizing agent, and (iii) at least one alkalizing agent; and (b) heat treatment of keratin fibers to a temperature above 30[deg] C, provided that: the ingredients (i)-(iii) can be applied to the fibers either together or separately; the pH of the composition or the ingredient (ii) is basic i.e. greater than 7; and the total concentration of hydroxybenzaldehyde derivatives (I) is greater than 1 wt.%. Either R1-R5 : H, halo, OH, 1-5C alkyl (optionally substituted), 1-5C alkoxy, carboxyl or carboxylate (-C(O)O -M +), carbamoyl group of formula (-OC(O)-NR1aR1b) (preferably -O-C(O)-NH 2), amido group of formula (-C(O)-NR6R7) or (-NR6-C(O)-R7) (preferably -C(O)-NH 2), ester group of formula (-C(O)-O-R8) (preferred) or (-OC(O)-R8), 1-5C alkyl carbonyl, a carboxaldehyde or amino group of formula (NR1aR1b); or CR1R2, CR2R3, CR3R4 : 6 membered (hetero)aryl such as phenyl; M + : cationic counter ion such as alkali metal, alkaline earth metal, or ammonium; R1a, R1b : H or 1-5C alkyl; R6, R7 : H or 1-5C alkyl; and R8 : 1-5C alkyl. Provided that at least one of the two groups of R1 or R3 is OH; when R1 is OH then R2-R5 is H; and when R3 is OH then R1 or R2 or R4 or R5 represents H. Independent claims are included for: (1) cosmetic composition comprises: (i) at least one hydroxybenzaldehyde derivative (I), (ii) at least one chemical oxidizing agent, and (iii) at least one alkalizing agent, provided that: the pH of the composition is greater than 7; hydroxybenzaldehyde derivative (I) containing at least one of the two groups R1 or R3 is hydroxy, with when R1 represents OH group then R2-R5 represents H, and when R3 represents OH then R1, R4, R5 or R2 denotes H; when hydroxybenzaldehyde derivative (I) is 3,4-dihydroxybenzaldehyde, 4-hydroxy-2-methoxybenzaldehyde, 3,5-dimethoxybenzaldehyde, 4-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde, or 3,5-dimethyl-4-hydroxybenzaldehyde, then the alkalizing agent (iii) is different from the monoethanolamine; and when hydroxybenzaldehyde derivative (I) is 4-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzaldehyde and 2-hydroxy-3- methoxybenzaldehyde in the presence of 2-aminophenol, 2,5-diaminotoluene sulfate, then the alkalizing agent is different ammonium hydroxide; and (2) multi-compartment device comprising 2-4 compartments containing 2-4 compositions in which the ingredients are distributed (i), (ii), and (iii), where the composition is aqueous or pulverulent, with at least one of the compositions being aqueous.
