The method involves testing operation of a 12 V lead-acid battery (33) that supplies power to a starter (31) of a power train (39) of a hybrid motor vehicle. The battery operation is tested after taking a decision to start a thermal engine (3) for passing from an on-board network controlling mode i.e. electric mode, in which the engine is not utilized, to another mode i.e. thermal mode, in which the engine is utilized. The passage is authorized when the test result is positive, where the result is positive if voltage of the network is higher than or equal to a defined value i.e. 13.2 V. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a computer-readable data storage medium comprising a computer program to implement a control system operating method (2) a system for controlling an on-board network of a hybrid motor vehicle (3) a computer program comprising a set of instructions for implementing the control system operating method.
