The interface has a touch control surface (5) for enabling a user i.e. driver (4), to activate different icons displayed on a page of a display screen (6) i.e. touch screen, where the icons correspond to different levels in a menu tree. The interface is structured such that a simple support on the touch control surface with a portion of hand of a user results in a direct return of a control of the interface to a root of the menu tree, where the portion of the hand of the user exceeds a given threshold distance. The touch control surface is arranged at an offset relative to the screen. An independent claim is also included for a passenger compartment for a vehicle, comprising a central console.
