The present invention relates to a system for determining a propagation time of an optical signal between two pieces of equipment in a network of optical transmission. The first equipment is designed to determine the propagation time following the transmission of a measurement optical signals in a direction of propagation towards a second equipment by means of an optical link by passing through an intermediate equipment comprising at least one amplifier (10) and to the reception of an optical signal in return from the second item of equipment by means of the same optical link in the direction opposite to the direction of propagation. The measuring system comprises means for: - extract (12), the return signal at the outlet of said intermediate equipment; - to be regenerated (22), the return signal extracted, - inject (11) the regenerated signal on the optical link, at the input of said intermediate equipment.
