The device has a pump (P) whose main openings are connected to two high pressure ducts (1, 2). Two rear motors (Mar1d, Mar1g) and two front motors (Mavd, Mavg) are connected to one of the high pressure ducts. The front and rear motors are connected with each other by a series of conduits (3d, 3g) to form a closed transmission circuit. Pressure control valves (Vd, Vg) are connected to the conduits. The valves attain three positions (I, II, N), where the valves connect the conduits to one of the high pressure ducts when the valves are in one of the positions. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling hydrostatic pressure in a mobile machine.
