The device has an electric circuit e.g. voltage divider bridge, comprising a temperature sensor (1) with variable resistance depending on temperature of the sensor, where current (I) having a specific intensity value flows in the sensor during measurement of the temperature by the sensor. An intensity increasing unit increases the value of intensity of the current flowing through the sensor beyond the specific intensity value to determine an operating condition of the sensor. The intensity increasing unit comprises a switch (7) e.g. relay contact or transistor, controlled by a microcontroller. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling operation of a temperature measurement device.
