The filter has vertically stacked filtering elements formed by washers or helical spring (2). The elements are kept apart from each other by elastic units e.g. tabs, and brought close to each other by electric, pneumatic, hydraulic or mechanical units e.g. actuator (5) or nut, such that spacing (A) between the elements is adjusted to define size of particles to be passed into the spacing, or increased to maximum to allow retained particles to be detached. The elements are traversed by liquid from inside to outside or vice versa, where liquid flow is reversed to facilitate impurity detachment. An independent claim is also included for a reciprocating pumping device.
