The roof has a rigid roof housing comprising a rigid panel that extends between two poles, and a flexible outer canvas (3) for connecting the housing to a rear window. Side tension mechanisms are arranged sides of the canvas. The housing, the window, the fabric and holding members (92) are folded in a rear boot compartment of a vehicle in a retracted position of the roof. One of the side mechanisms extends parallel to the other mechanism from inner sides of arches (22) and tightens the canvas to form a longitudinal groove (35) in the canvas along the arches.
