The method involves providing an active noise control device (2), which is utilized for processing raw acoustic timing signal (S-t) from an engine at a determined operating frequency range that is outside a predetermined frequency band associated with a malfunction of a gas turbine engine. An acoustic detector (4) is utilized for analyzing an acoustic temporal signal event (Z-t), and for sending a malfunction detection message if necessary. An independent claim is also included for a system for acoustic detection of malfunction of a gas turbine engine.
