The present invention relates to a method for managing communications in a wireless communications network 100 having a mesh or "relay-based" communication mode operating according to a relay scheme. The network comprises network devices 120-190 defining transmission links 500-513, 540-546 between them. The method comprises: initially detecting (S600, figure 8) a mobile obstacle within the network coverage area 550; dynamically tracking the detected obstacle by iteratively determining (S601) a monitoring area 514 including the detected obstacle; selecting (S602), from the transmission links, a subset (S-II) of monitoring links belonging at least partly to the monitoring area and monitoring (S604) a perturbation level of the selected monitoring links to determine movement of the mobile obstacle in the coverage area; dynamically adapting (S603) the relay scheme of the network based on the belonging or not belonging of the transmission links between network devices to said selected subset.
