PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for making an accurate rate estimate by a simple operation at a destination station without requiring the transmission of rate information in multi-coding transmission.;SOLUTION: A transmission/reception apparatus 1 comprising two rate estimation sections 70 performs a syndrome operation including no erased symbols only a limited number of times in determining whether or not an operation result is zero to make a rate estimate, and also restores a correctable erased symbol and performs a syndrome operation including the restored symbol and including no erased symbols only a limited number of times in determining whether or not an operation result is zero to make a rate estimate.
