PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new viewpoint image generation device capable of generating a more clear and natural new viewpoint image.;SOLUTION: The new viewpoint image generation device includes: a new viewpoint image generation part 106 for generating a new viewpoint image including a missing pixel area by shifting a foreground image area in an input image on the basis of a depth map corresponding to the input image; a representative background pixel selection part 104 for selecting background pixels separated from an edge pixel showing a boundary between the foreground image area and background image area in the input image by predetermined number of pixels as a plurality of representative background pixels; a texture direction map calculation part 108 for calculating the texture direction of each of the selected representative background pixels, and for calculating a texture direction map showing the texture direction corresponding to each missing pixel on the basis of the position of each representative background pixel and the position of each missing pixel included in the missing pixel area; and an interpolation processing part 110 for interpolating the missing pixel area by using the acquired background pixels in accordance with the texture direction map.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT
