PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a biomass carbonization device and a biomass carbonization method for thermally degrading a biomass to obtain a carbonized product at high yield.SOLUTION: A biomass carbonization device includes a vertical carbonization furnace 11, from the upper part of which biomass is supplied to create a biomass filling movement layer P inside the carbonization furnace 11, from the lower part of which a high-temperature gas is supplied to bring the biomass into contact with the high-temperature gas, and in which thermal decomposition is then conducted to produce a carbonized product. The biomass carbonization device further has liquid-supplying units 12, 14, 21; and 17, 19, 20, which supply a liquid to the upper part of the carbonization furnace 11 to obtain a moist conditions in space of the carbonization furnace.
