PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To propose a fault tolerant controller for shortening a stop time of an application, and a method for controlling a fault tolerant system.SOLUTION: The fault tolerant controller for synchronizing three or more processors connected to a bus to make the processors process the same instruction string has: abnormal processor detection means for comparing processing states of the three or more processors to detect an abnormal processor in an abnormal processing state; and resynchronization means for incrementing a counter corresponding to the abnormal processor when detecting the abnormal processor, initializing the abnormal processor to make the abnormal processor perform reset processing for synchronizing with a processor in a normal processing state in the case that the counter reaches a reference value, and making the abnormal processor perform emergency processing based on a normal processing state in the case that the counter does not reach the reference value.
