PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide novel granule based on aluminum oxide and a method for producing the granule.;SOLUTION: Granules based on aluminum oxide have the following characteristics an average particle size of 5.0 to 150 μm and a tap density of 300 to 1,200 g/l. The granules are produced by dispersing aluminum oxide in water, performing spray drying, optionally heat treatment and/or silanization. In silanized form, the granules have the following characteristics an average particle size of 5 to 160 μm and a tap density of 300 to 1,200 g/l and a carbon content of 0.3 to 12.0 mass%.
