PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spin injection-type light modulating element having an excellent optical modulation degree, and a spatial light modulator using the same.;SOLUTION: A spin injection-type light modulating element 1 has a structure where a lower electrode layer 2, a magnetization fixation layer 3, a non-magnetic intermediate layer 4, a magnetization free layer 5, and an upper electrode layer 6 are stacked in this order. Current is supplied through a pair of electrodes composed of the lower electrode layer 2 and the upper electrode layer 6, so as to change a magnetization direction of the magnetization free layer 5, so that incident light is emitted with a polarization direction changed.
