Optical absorption gas sensor has an LED light source, a photodiode light detector, the temperature measuring device for measuring the LED temperature, and the temperature measuring device for measuring the photodiode temperature. Light absorption sensor is calibrated by measuring the response of the photodiode current at the zero analyte gas concentration with the reference analyte gas concentration. From these measurements, the influence of the sensitivity of the photodiode of the photodiode temperature and, independently, the consideration calibration data the effect of a change in the spectrum of the light output by LED to light detected by the photodiode with the LED temperature it is possible to obtain. Calibration data is written in the memory in the gas sensor, in the gas sensor of operation, the output is compensated for both the LED and the photo diode temperature. Thus LED and photodiode may be separated relatively far, it is possible to operate at significantly different temperatures to allow greater freedom of optical path design. Elongate waveguide for light absorption gas sensor formed of two opposite composite parabolic collector is also disclosed.
