PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress emission of a light source outside of an optical characteristic guarantee area.;SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a step of determining whether or not a test pattern is located within an optical characteristic guarantee area when the test pattern is formed at a position detectable by detection sensors 5a,5b, 5c capable of detecting the test pattern according to a main scanning width of the test pattern; a step of turning ON a flag for controlling a test pattern formation at the position detectable by the detection sensors in the case that the pattern is located within the optical characteristic guarantee area when the test pattern is formed at the position detectable by the detection sensors 5a, 5b, 5c; and a step of forming the test pattern for the detection sensors which turn ON the flag for controlling the test pattern formation.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT
