PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress a deterioration in an operation service as much as possible and also to avoid a collision to safely operate cars when a horizontally movable special car or a normal car is in a failed state.;SOLUTION: A multi-car elevator includes: at least two normal cars 13, 14 that are regulated to run upward and downward only through two shafts, respectively; and at least one special car 17 that is movable in a horizontal direction between the respective shafts.
