PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a feature extraction device capable of generating a local binary pattern from more pixels in a state of preventing lowering of object detection accuracy and an increase in processing load.SOLUTION: A feature extraction device 10 comprises: a subarea setting part 433 for setting multiple subareas to a target pixel; and a binary pattern generation part 434 for generating a local binary pattern that shows comparison of pixel values among the subareas, with respect to each target pixel. The subarea setting part 433 at least sets an area consisting of multiple pixels including a pixel separated from the target pixel as the subarea. The binary pattern generation part 434 calculates a representative value for each subarea, and generates the local binary pattern that shows whether or not a difference between the representative value and the pixel value of the target pixel is equal to or greater than a predetermined threshold.
