PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve performance of writing data with a small block size or file size to a tape cartridge.;SOLUTION: A tape cartridge 2 is provided with a magnetic tape 4 and a nonvolatile semiconductor memory 5. A comparison part 11 compares the transmission speed of data that is transmitted from a host machine to a tape drive device 1, with a speed threshold value. A speed determination part 12 determines the speed of writing data to the tape cartridge according to the result of the comparison. A data write part 13 writes data to the magnetic tape 4 provided for the tape cartridge 2 if the transmission speed is faster then the speed threshold value; and writes subsequent data, which follows the data written to the magnetic tape 4, to the nonvolatile semiconductor memory 5 provided for the tape cartridge 2 if the transmission speed is slower than the speed threshold value.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT
