The method involves forming an object i.e. LEDs (15, 15'), by reflection characteristics of a surface (7) of a bead (5) i.e. water bead, where a position of the object is common to an optical axis (A) of an optical measuring system e.g. video camera, and to a sample surface (3). A distance between formations of the object and a symmetry axis (A-Sy) of the bead is measured. A radius of curvature of the bead is determined from the distance. A contact angle between the sample surface, a gaseous environment and the bead is determined from the radius of curvature. An independent claim is also included for an image analysis device for measuring a contact angle between a sample surface, a gaseous environment and a bead arranged on the sample surface.
