PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wireless communication system and method capable of compensating a cover area of a base station under operation suspension, of providing communication opportunities to a wireless terminal, of relaxing congestion of the base station caused by concentration of communication requests, and of suppressing run-out of batteries of the wireless terminal.SOLUTION: A base station produces schedule information prescribing a startup time timing of a wireless communication part in a wireless terminal, and broadcasts a broadcast message including the schedule information to a wireless terminal. The base station radiates a radiowave at a timing depending on the schedule information while changing a radiation direction and/or a radiation angle. The wireless terminal on-off controls power supply to the wireless communication part depending on the startup time timing of the schedule information in the broadcast message. Thereby, a timing when the radiation direction and/or the radiation angle of the radiowave of the base station directs to the wireless terminal and a timing when the power supply to the wireless communication part of the wireless terminal is turned on are synchronized with each other.
