PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wire electric discharge machining method and a wire electric discharge machine, for highly precisely and easily machining a cutting tool with ultra-hard material fixed thereto.;SOLUTION: A touch sensor 3 mounted to an upper wire guide 14 is positioned at a measurement position by driving an X axis and a Y axis for horizontally moving the touch sensor 3 relatively to a tool to be machined having a PCD (polycrystalline diamond) tip 101 fixed to a tool body 100 according to a measurement program generated based upon a machining program (a). A front end 3b of a detector 3a is lowered to a rotation center height of a rotary shaft by movement of a vertically moving Z axis, and positioned (b). The rotary shaft 22 is rotated in a direction in which a rake face of the cutting tool comes into contact with the front end 3b (c).
