P To swiftly detect the abnormal operation of a selective electric drainage apparatus and to instantaneously perform its exchanging operation. PSOLUTION: The method comprises: a monitoring step S1 for monitoring a drainage current flowing to the rail of a d.c electric railway from a buried metal pipeline through a selective electric drainage apparatus and monitoring the ground potential to the pipe at a connection point between the selective electric drainage apparatus and the buried metal pipeline; a selective electric drainage apparatus abnormality-determining step S2 for determining that the selective electric drainage apparatus has abnormality, in the case the drainage current is positive or zero and or the drainage current is positive or zero and also the ground potential to the pipe is ON a plus side from the corrosion protection standard potential; and an abnormality informing step S3 for informing the abnormality, in the case it is determined that there is the abnormality and in the selective electric drainage apparatus abnormality-determining step S2.
