PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To recognize action without deteriorating recognition precision or increasing calculation load even if items for action recognition are increased. PSOLUTION: An action recognition apparatus 1 includes: an action detection unit 13 for detecting an action of a subject to be recognized; an estimation processing unit 11 for previously narrowing down action types of which actions of the subject is to be recognized; a selection processing unit 12 for selecting a recognition method and a dictionary by referencing a recognition method/dictionary DB 21, based on the action types narrowed down by the processing unit 11; and a recognition processing unit 14 for performing an action recognition using the recognition method and the dictionary selected by the selection processing unit 12. The recognition processing unit 14 performs an action recognition processing of information detected by the action detection unit 13, based on only the action types narrowed down by the estimation processing unit 11.
