PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an external heat insulation method for an external wall of a wooden building, which can create a stable temperature environment in the room of the wooden building. PSOLUTION: In this external heat insulation method for the external wall 1 of the wooden building in which a plurality of wooden columns 4 are erected at spacings, a thermal storage element 7 is arranged between the columns 4; and a heat insulating material 8 is arranged on the outdoor side of the thermal storage element 7. The thermal storage element 7, which is a cement-based extruded plate formed by extrusion molding, has a hollow part 7a which is elongated in the direction of extrusion. Plywood 11 for connecting the adjacent columns 4 together is arranged between the thermal storage element 7 and the heat insulating material 8. The cement-based extruded plate as the thermal storage element 7 is fixed to the plywood 11 by means of a metal fitting 12 which is inserted through the hollow portion 7a. Additionally, the thermal storage element 7 and the heat insulating material 8 are arranged at a spacing, so that an air space 15 can be constituted between the thermal storage element 7 and the heat insulating material 8.
