PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain metal oxide nanoparticles with which the blending amount of a polymer dispersant to the metal oxide particles is made small in comparison with conventional metal oxide nanoparticles, and to obtain a metal oxide nanoparticle-containing composition in which dispersion stability of a pigment can be maintained for a long period of time without including a large amount of polymer dispersant.;SOLUTION: The metal oxide nanoparticles are obtained by performing (a) a process for forming a surface modification phase on the surface of each metal oxide nanoparticle by the condensation reaction of metal oxide nanoparticles and a metal alkoxide and (b) a process for covering the surface of the surface modification phase with a polymer dispersant while crushing aggregates of metal oxide nanoparticles in a solvent by using the aggregates of the metal oxide nanoparticles, the metal alkoxide and the polymer dispersant. It is preferable that all of the aggregates of the metal oxide nanoparticles, the metal alkoxide and the polymer dispersant are mixed in a solvent before crushing.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
