PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solidification cracking estimation method which can estimate whether solidification cracking occurs or not when the casting of an Al alloy composed of desired alloy components is subjected to semi-continuous casting by a vertical direct water-cooled system. PSOLUTION: The solidification cracking estimation method includes: an input step S1 where the kind and additional amount of an additional element(s) whose addition to an Al alloy is allowable, casting velocity and the cross-sectional area of a casting are inputted; a calculation step S2 where a temperature change amount ΔT when the solid phase rate of the Al alloy changes from the solid phase rate FsL of either one point in 0.75±0.05 to the solid phase rate FsH of either one point in 0.95±0.03 is calculated based on (formula 1-1); an estimation step S3 where it is estimated that solidification cracking hardly occurs in the case the relation among the temperature change amount ΔT, and the inputted casting velocity v and the cross-section S of the casting satisfy (formula 1-2); and an output step S4 where the estimated result is outputted: ΔT=(TSBFsL/SB-TSBFsH/SB)×ä(FsH-FsL)/0.2} (formula 1-1), and ΔT≤1,660/(logS×√v) (formula 1-2).
