PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus which controls a central frequency by controlling an acoustic velocity of a surface acoustic wave on the surface of a solid within a SAW device.;SOLUTION: An apparatus 100 comprises a surface acoustic wave ("SAW") device 102, a DC bias voltage source 104, a substrate 106, an electrode 108, a piezoelectric layer 110, an electrode 112, an input converter 114 and an output converter 116. A DC bias voltage is applied between the electrode 108 and the electrode 112 and an electric field that controls an acoustic velocity of a surface acoustic wave is formed within the piezoelectric layer 110, thereby controlling a central frequency of the SAW device 102.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
