PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a precursor fiber for producing a carbon fiber having high strength and high elongation.;SOLUTION: The method for producing a precursor fiber for producing a carbon fiber having a water vapor adsorption amount in the range of 3-9 cm³/g at 90% humidity measured by a gas absorption measuring apparatus using water vapor includes spinning a copolymer obtained by polymerizing a monomer containing ≥90 mass% of acrylonitrile to give an acrylic fiber, subjecting the acrylic yarn to washing in water, drying, steam drawing treatment, then heat-treating the acrylic yarn in a state of floating in air at 170-250°C in a draw ratio of 0.90-1.10.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
