PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating composition which is harmless to the human body without reducing barrier properties against a gas such as oxygen and steam even under highly humid conditions, and a coating film having excellent gas barrier properties which uses this coating composition. SOLUTION: The gas barrier coating composition comprises (a) an ethylene/ vinyl alcohol copolymer having a melt flow index (at 20 deg.C under a load of 21.168 N) of 20-50 g/10 min and (b) at least one kind selected from the group to be represented by the formula: R1mM(OR2)n (wherein M is a metallic atom; R1 is the same or different and is a 1-8C organic group; R2 is the same or different and is a 1-5C alkyl group, a 1-6C acyl group or a phenol group; m and n are each an integer of 0 or more and m+n is a valence of M), and the gas barrier coating film uses this gas barrier coating composition.
