PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a probabilistic inference system that can achieve a certain accuracy rate for all values that a random variable to be inferred can assume, while avoiding an increase in the time required for inference. PSOLUTION: The probabilistic inference system includes: a state inference unit 106 which infers a value of a state while updating a prior priority by calculating a posterior probability on the basis of a probabilistic model 102 for making observations from a state that is a random variable, and of the prior probability and the observations, and regarding the calculated posterior probability as a prior probability for use at the next time; and an inference terminating unit 108 which terminates the inference by the state inference unit 106 according to inference termination requirements that are varied depending on the inferred value of the state.
