PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new means by which wide mutation is efficiently induced in a microorganism in a high mutation rate. PSOLUTION: The method for inducing the mutation in the microorganism includes irradiating a microorganism biomass with a heavy ion beam (e.g. an iron ion beam, a xenon ion beam and a krypton ion beam) having 500-1,200 keV/μm linear energy transfer (LET) to introduce the mutation such as insertion mutation, deletion mutation and point mutation to the gene of the microorganism.
