PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve wave height discrimination performance in a radiation source start domain. PSOLUTION: A wire-area neutron flux monitoring system for monitoring a neutron flux in a reactor includes: a neutron detector 2 provided inside the reactor 1, and including a fission counter tube; a detector characteristic evaluation device 8 including a pulse width computing unit 6 for calculating an average pulse width of a detector output signal output from the neutron detector 2, and a wave height distribution characteristic predictor 7 for predicting an -ray generation rate inside the neutron detector 2, calculating the maximum value of an -ray pileup wave height value based on the -ray generation rate and the average pulse width, and for output of the maximum value as a wave height discrimination level; and a wire-area neutron flux monitoring device 4 including a pulse counting circuit for counting pulses having a higher wave height than the wave height discrimination level in the detector output signals, for calculating a neutron flux.
