PSOLUTION: A catalyst comprising a catalytic material, which contains Re or one or more of its compounds as an indispensable component and, if necessary, Zn, Ga, Co, Fe or one or more of their compounds and a metallosilicate is used. In the presence of the catalyst and co-presence of carbon monoxide and/or carbon dioxide and an aromatic compound and hydrogen are produced by using a lower hydrocarbon as a raw material. An aromatic hydrocarbon such as benzene, toluene, xylene, naphthalene and etc. and hydrogen are efficiently produced. Also, if reaction is carried out in the co-presence of carbon monoxide and/or carbon dioxide, the reaction conversion efficiency is improved and further and decrease of the production speed with the lapse of time is suppressed and thus stable capability for a long duration can be obtained.
