PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst which can keep lowering of its particulate matter (PM) combustion activity due to poisoning by sulfur contained in the exhaust gas of diesel engines controlled without use of noble metals, e.g. Pt, and which can burn PM at low temperatures and a filter for purification of the exhaust gas of diesel engines using the catalyst.;SOLUTION: A composite oxide for purification of exhaust gas is used to burn PM emitted from diesel engines for removal and contains at least one selected from alkali metals and alkaline earth metals and at least one selected from acidic and amphoteric elements.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
