PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for recovering zinc oxide from electric furnace dust by which zinc oxide can be obtained in a non-reduced state, zinc oxide can be more efficiently separated while saving energy, and further added value can be applied to iron oxide. PSOLUTION: This method comprises: a step of weighing each prescribed amount of the powder of electric furnace dust and a calcium compound powder, mixing them, pressing the resulting powder mixture and holding the resulting pressed body in the air, in an electric furnace, at 900 to 1,000C for 60 to 120 hr; a step of cooling the pressed body treated in the electric furnace, pulverizing the pressed body and then dispersing the resulting powder in a liquid; and a step of subjecting the resulting disperse liquid to magnetic separation in a DC magnetic field to recover zinc oxide as a nonmagnetic material.
