PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital broadcasting receiver capable of reducing the unpleasant feelings of a user by message information display and displaying message information useful for the user, and the control method therefor. PSOLUTION: The digital broadcasting receiver is for receiving the message information and displaying it at a display part, and includes: a storage means for associating and storing the message information, a function relating to the message information among the functions of the digital broadcast receiver unit, and the use frequency of the function; a determination means for determining whether or not the message information should be displayed on the basis of the use frequency of the function relating to the received message information; and a control means for controlling the display at the display part of the received message information in accordance with the result of the determination means.
