Non-photorealistic Rendering of Geographic Features in a Map

Generating non-photorealistic renderings of geographic features for a map that emphasize one or more geographic features in the rendering while de-emphasizing other portions of the rendering. Three dimensional geographic model data is stored for a plurality of geographic features. Portions of the model data representing a geographic feature and its surrounding area are selected. A non-photorealistic rendering is generated from the model data. The geographic feature is rendered with greater visual emphasis than the portions of the data that surround the geographic feature, and the resulting rendering is output for display.
