In the present invention, there is described the use of metformin and glyburide for the preparation of a pharmaceutical composition containing a low dose combination of metformin and glyburide, wherein said pharmaceutical composition is intended for the treatment of type 2 diabetes, in a drug naive human patient, where the combination of metformin and glyburide comprising 250 mg metformin and 1.25 mg glyburide is intended for administration and has a given distribution of glyburide particle size. A method for treating diabetes in drug naive human patients is also described employing the above formulation to reduce insulin resistance and/or post-prandial glucose excursion and/or hemoglobin 1Ac, and/or increase post-prandial insulin, thereby treating the diabetes.
