A method for controlling a drying machine is proposed, which includes selecting and starting a drying program for textile products for external use and performing a preheating step, a main drying step, and a cooling step. The temperature used in the dryer (1) during the main drying step is lower than the temperature used in the normal drying program, and the nominal humidity of the loaded textile products (4) for external use at the end of the cooling step exceeds the nominal humidity of conventional textiles at the end of the normal drying program . By setting a suitable drying temperature, damage to the material and insulating strips at the seams of textile products (4) for external use caused by the drying program is prevented as much as possible. In addition, after the drying program is completed, the nominal humidity of the dried products for external use exceeds the nominal humidity of conventional textiles achieved after the normal drying program. Due to this, wrinkles caused by overdrying are not formed on the dried products (4) for external use, and at the same time, the material and insulating strips covering the seams of textile products (4) for external use are protected from damage. A dryer has also been developed for implementing the method.
