An apparatus for connecting an insert in a steam generator tube (14) with a material bond is intended to allow a technically particularly simple production process and particularly low susceptibility to repair of the steam generator tube (14) thus produced. For this purpose, the apparatus comprises a welding device, comprising a welding wire feeding device and a welding gas feeding device, and also a torch head (12), a torch tube (8) being rigidly connected to the torch head (12), and a welding wire nozzle (16) of the torch head (12) being arranged eccentrically with respect to the centre axis (18) of the torch tube (8).
